By Patricia Graham

With matters fashion at their height, having a signature fragrance is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Gone are the days when the world of perfume was unknown territory to most men. Currently, both men and women will seek to have a scent that portrays their personalities, their tastes and even their status within the society. If you are out shopping for a good product that could define you, there are a few prime tips that could assist you tremendously in picking the ideal mens cologne.

As you go about your shopping, you want to aim at telling people a true story about yourself. Whether you primarily make trips to the office, you are a field person or a contractor who is constantly in gumboots and a helmet, finding the ideal aromatic signature will be of key importance. Forget your schedules and focus on finding something that you could be comfortable wearing, regardless of your plans.

Even fragrance manufacturers need to use marketing slogans in order to attract customers and make ends meet. Even so, scent masters have affirmed that there is no scent that is specific to a particular gender. As you shop around and sniff various products that are available, ensure that the choice you make is a personal one and not one that is dictated by a marketing catchphrase.

One of the key things to note is how long a particular scent is designed to linger. Anything with 20-30% fragrance could be expensive to get from the shelves, though a single dab could last for 24hours. On the other hand fragrance that is will only have what it takes to linger for five to eight hours.

Most people will go for a scent that lingers for at least eight hours. This assures them of not breaking the bank and still being able to make their personal and fashion statements through the normal working hours. The other option that you could consider is Eau de Toilette which is normally alcohol with some perfume extract. Such products are only able to last for a couple of hours.

Modern men know their suits, their shoes, their flowers and most importantly, their perfumes. You owe it to yourself to know a little more about how to find the right mens fragrance. One of the key things to note is that cologne comes in three layers and the divine scent you sniff on the bottler paper may not be the scent you will have after a daylong of hard work.

Any kind of fragrance, regardless of its price will have a top, middle and base note. What you sniff on the counter is the top note which will mainly consist of light scents that are pleasing to the soul. The middle note however is the scent that kicks in after a few hours and settles in for longer. The base note is not always the friendliest of scents though good cologne should have a combination that flawlessly complements each other.

Finding the right cologne would take more than a one-time shopping. The truth is that your hunt will be highly based on trial and error until you make the ideal pick. Do your part of the research and perhaps even get some tips from a trusted friend before you choose what to invest in.
