The best brushes are those that fit into the mouth and hands comfortably. If you struggle when brushing, there are chances that you will not do a thorough job. Choose the brushes with soft bristles instead of the hardest. Hard bristled brushes have a place in cleaning. They help when you need to scrub your teeth after a long break. However, they will damage your gums when used continuously or with little care. Their hard bristles also mean that they might fail to bend and get to some tiny spaces between teeth.

The size of the mouth also makes a brush appropriate or not. Unknown to many people, there are large, medium and small sized brushes. It does not mean that the small sized brushes are for use by children. Measure the size of your mouth by that of your fist. If it is big, you buy a large size brush. If it is small, use the small size one. A small one will fail to get to all corners while the big one is cumbersome.

Oral hygiene is enhanced when your brushing is done in the right way. The recommended frequency is twice a day, but where possible, after every meal. Use mouth wash if brushing is impossible or inconvenient. However, dedicate 3-5 minutes every day for thorough brushing using quality toothpaste. This allows you to cover all corners.

Clean the tongue and gums thoroughly in order to maintain good oral hygiene. Failure to clean them leaves your mouth with debris which harbors tooth decay microorganisms. Avoid hard bristled toothbrushes because they may damage the gums and tongue. Soft bristles will also fail to get to all corners. Choose brushes according to the recommendation of dentists and health experts.

The toothbrush should be cleaned properly and stored in a dry place after use. Clean it and remove all the water that may remain to avoid buildup of microorganisms. It is these microorganisms that act on your teeth once you are done with cleaning. Toothbrushes need replacement every three to four months because the bristles have already weakened. This makes the ineffective to the point of failing to clean your mouth as desired.
