Playing With A Child Can Be The Best Therapy

By Ronald Lewis

Children are fun to watch and romp around with. These tiny tots give enjoyable companionship to what would otherwise be a lonely and quiet house. These lovable and beautiful babies can instill laughable moments. Parental care and guidance are given to them until they will mature. Yet, some enter this world with minor deficiencies. Worry not for there are health practitioners who can help. Get the services of a therapist who possesses a child centered play therapy certification.

It will take a child to become a toddler before its guardians will be able to detect mental deficiencies. It certainly is during this time when they begin to display aberrant behavior. Parents must be vigilant in dealing with behavior like this as it can be misunderstood or mistakenly assessed as a disease. Consulting a family physician will be the best thing to do. However, there have been known cases when physicians misdiagnose the deficiency causing more problems.

Children become more problematic as they grow. This can be caused by the absence of proper care and guidance from parents who are always at work. It also is very definitive that there is a failure in communications as adults have the tendency to misunderstand and negatively react to kid tantrums. There is a known gap of communication between adults and children and this becomes wider as grownups try to impose their method of communicating.

Verbally interacting with children orally is forcing them to use a method that they are still trying of learning and are inadequate to be comfortable with. It makes restricts them and make them feel awkward that is why they shy away from verbal tussles. It takes years of development before a tot will feel at ease with using the spoken word.

Expressing by way of playing acts as a verbal expression of a child as speech is for adults. Carefully observing a child playing can make the observer discern very quickly that the activity is for at tot, a medium for self fulfillment, for exploring friendships, displaying wishes, acting out experiences, and expressing emotions. Play therapy uses an approach of being with children than enforcing on them.

Kids display more of themselves when they talk about things that are to his or her liking. Asking first about what the favorite toys are, the things he likes, his pets, friends will get far better responses than asking the kid about his problems. This concept is geared towards the development of a young tot. This will allow children to sort things out through communicating on a medium that is comfortable to them.

The development of language in youngsters lags behind the development of their ability for recognition. That is why kids often have imaginary friends. Their world is a world of play, fantasy, imagination, and make believe. This therapy makes use of toys and views them as a means of expression that kids are adept and familiar with. The use of toys allows children to expunge anxieties, fears, and bad feelings to objects rather than to people.

This intervention positively employs playing as a very important tool to give children an avenue to express their hidden world. They employ toys to symbolize and represent actual experiences that they cannot express through speech. This is to their liking. By playing out bad experiences they are able to realize by themselves the answer to their questions and can better cope with challenges.

This profession is overseen by the association for play therapy and has three certifications. These are for registered practitioners, therapy supervisors, and last but not least, the school based registered practitioners. To secure a certification one has to be a masters degree holder of child development and teen psychotherapy or its counterpart. Two thousand hours or more of clinical exposure and experience is required from applicants.
